A Journey on the Nankai Ferry — A 2-Hour Cruise from Tokushima to Wakayama

This time, I experienced a 2-hour ferry journey from Tokushima Prefecture to Wakayama Prefecture. The Nankai Ferry is a popular mode of transportation, offering a relaxing trip across the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea. In this post, I’ll showcase the charm of the ferry and introduce the onboard facilities and highlights of the trip.

1. Nankai Ferry — Tickets and Boarding Preparation

Affordable!

This time, I purchased a great value ticket for ¥2,200 (approximately $15). The Nankai Ferry, departing from Tokushima Port, has a shop on the first floor selling sweets and drinks from Tokushima and Wakayama Prefectures, allowing passengers to enjoy some snacks or pick up small souvenirs during the trip. Although the dining hall was closed, the spacious ferry provided a relaxing environment.

2. Boarding Process and Exploring the Ferry

So many seats!

When you head up to the second floor, you’ll find a waiting room equipped with a TV, allowing you to relax while waiting for the ferry’s arrival. As the ferry docks, you can watch cars boarding and disembarking one after another, giving you a sense of how many vehicles the ferry can carry.

Inside the ferry, power outlets are available for charging, so there’s no need to worry about your phone or devices running out of battery during the trip. Additionally, to keep children entertained, picture books are provided, making it a family-friendly environment with thoughtful amenities.

The Nankai Ferry offers plenty of outdoor seating where you can relax and enjoy the sea breeze. It’s the perfect environment to quietly pass the time and refresh your mind. After departing from Tokushima Port, the ferry sets course for Wakayama Port.

Along the way, there are many highlights, including passing under large bridges and encountering massive ferries traveling between Tokyo and Kyushu. These scenic moments add excitement to the journey.
